facilities

East Anglia Tennis & Squash Club offers a welcoming, well-kept space to play, relax, and spend time together. The club has 10 tennis courts and 5 heated squash courts, giving plenty of room for casual play, coaching sessions, and competitive matches throughout the year.

Off court, our spacious clubhouse and bar area is a relaxed place to unwind, catch up with friends, or watch play. There’s ample outdoor seating, both covered and uncovered, so you can enjoy a drink or a bite to eat while taking in the action on court.

The club is designed to be easy and comfortable to use, with accessible access to both the ground and upper floors via ramps and a lift. Changing rooms with lockers and showers are available, making it simple to freshen up after a session.

Located in the centre of Norwich, the club is easy to reach whether you’re coming on foot, on the bus, by bike, or by car, with a large on-site car park for members and visitors. Bike racks are also available.

A BRIEF history

The club began life as the Norfolk & Norwich Tennis & Croquet Club, set among open fields that were once nursery gardens. In those early days, the facilities were simple but full of character: grass tennis courts maintained by a part-time groundsman, a croquet lawn tucked away in the corner, and a modest wooden pavilion serving as the clubhouse. With no electricity, no showers and very traditional changing facilities, the club relied as much on community spirit as it did on infrastructure, with members sharing teas, matches and friendly rivalries.

A major turning point came in the mid-1960s as facilities were modernised and the club expanded. Electricity was installed, squash courts were added during the sport’s boom years, and the first floodlit tennis courts in the county were built. Two local clubs came together to form what is now the East Anglia Tennis & Squash Club, setting the foundations for year-round sport. Over time, grass courts gave way to all-weather surfaces, the clubhouse grew into a permanent brick building with a bar and staff, and the club even hosted an international tennis tournament — including the British debut of a young Björn Borg. From humble beginnings to a thriving multi-sport club, the journey has been shaped by volunteers, members and a great deal of enthusiasm along the way.
