21st annual Louise Willgrass Memorial Tournament - Report

1 Ben & Ottilie with (L-R) Louise Bosworth & Barbara Kelso
2 with (L-R) Karen Heaton & Jo Gowing
3 with (L-R) Eva Howkins & Kate Smith

Well……. Despite the best efforts of the Met Office, Referee Derek Perry and I confounded the weather gods and pulled off yet another rain-free tournament!  Our 53rd!

So,16 pairs of ladies gathered at EATSC, Lime Tree Road for the 21st Annual Louise Willgrass Memorial Tournament on Wednesday 30th September 2026.  The format was a “compass draw” playing nine games per round with a full tie-break set for the final round.

After the tennis a delicious lunch prepared by Sharon was served.

The winners were Kate Smith & Eva Howkins from Beccles, runners-up Jo Gowing (Brooke) and Karen Heaton (EATSC).  The winners of the backward draw were Louise Bosworth and Barbara Kelso (EATSC). Ben Willgrass (https://www.willgrasswealthmanagement.co.uk) kindly sponsors the tournament and he and his daughter Ottilie presented the gorgeous orchid prizes supplied by Niche Flowers https://www.nicheflowers.com

The ever-popular raffle followed the presentations raising £400 for TennisAble - a non-profit enterprise which provides free tennis coaching to the disabled and disadvantaged.  https://www.tennisable.co.uk/ If you would like to support their future efforts you can do so at: http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/tennis-able-norwich

Thank you to all the participants and to those who donated raffle prizes. Much appreciated.

I look forward to seeing  you next year for one or all of our three charity tournaments.
